It can be a colorless to pale yellow solution or a white, waxy solid. Because of its capacity to lower surface tension, it is used extensively in the manufacturing of soaps, detergents, and cosmetics. It is also utilized as a dispersion agent and for emulsification in the rubber and textile industries. Chemical formulations and biodegradable lubricants are also made with sodium oleate.
